2 of the best foreign company name examples in Chinese

You may heard of the above 2 Chinese company names translated by it's foreign names (English names): 可口可乐 for Coca Cola and 宝马 for BWM motors. They are among the best names ever given in China from foreign companies. 

可口可乐 in Chinese means "tasty and happy"; 宝马 in Chinese means "extraordinary horse". They sound very close both in Chinese and English pronunciation. They both are very successful in China market. Good names are quiet important.

In this article,  I am go you show you a few examples of:

Normally, you need to prepare at least one name in English then have it translated into Chinese according to its pronunciation. 

For example, when i started my first import and export business in Yiwu, China. To thank my wife for quitting her job and moving to Yiwu to help me, I picked her name Jin, then added my name Jack. Then we had Jin-Jack as English name.

Based on this English name, we translated it into Chinese as 金杰. 金 - means Gold, 杰 - means Excellence. We were happy about it. As this company was incorporated in Yiwu city, we had to add it in front of it. Then add our business scope - import and export, finally the company type. So it became YIWU JIN-JACK IMPORT AND EXPORT CO., LTD. Translated into Chinese:   义乌市金杰进出口有限公司. Luckily, nobody took this name at that time. So we keep it for 15 years already.

This is typically how a trading or import and export company name was given. But many times, you may have a name that someone else also have it, then it's a bit complicated. Let's see the next paragraph.

Example 2 - try many times:

A few days ago, I helped a friend registered a WFOE (wholly foreign owned enterprise) trading company in China. It was not that easy.

The English name given by this friend is: Siloam, which is a beautiful name. However, when it was translated by Google translate, it came 西罗亚岛 which does not mean right here.

Then i tried ChatGPT, it gave 西罗安 which is better, but not great. Nowhere match to Coca Cola or BMW.

What's more. Both these Chinese translations failed pass verifications as there were similar names found registered already. After more than 10 tries, we finally set down the name to submit.

The final Chinese name for this company is 义乌市玺路姆贸易有限公司.玺 - the jade stamp of empire (king);  路 - road;  姆 - mom / aunt / baby sitter. 

It's not the best, but it's the best available we can work out. It actually took 5 of us over 1 hour to deicide this name.

Tips:

• Have at least one English name ready.
• Have at least one person is experienced with giving company names.
• Have one person can verify names for similar ones.
• Get what's best available and not to be disappointed.
